To 2013 οι Eels κυκλοφορούν το 10ο studio άλμπουμ τους. Ο Mark Oliver Everett “E” στην φωνή, την κιθάρα και την παραγωγή επιστρέφει μετά από 3 χρόνια με 13 τραγούδια με τους The Chet και τον P-Boo στην κιθάρα, τον Knuckles στα drums και τον Koool G Murder στο μπάσο. 

Τα τραγούδια που ξεχωρίζουν είναι το Wonderful, Glorious, το You're My Friend, το True Original με μια υπέροχη μελωδία και έναν εξαιρετικό στίχο, το Kinda Fuzzy και το New Alphabet. Τα δικά μου πολύ αγαπημένα είναι το εξαιρετικό The Turnaround, το I Am Building A Shrine και το On The Ropes.

Every time I find myself in this old bind

Οι Eels και ο E επιστρέφουν με μια εξαιρετική παραγωγή. Μουσικά δεν αλλάζουν το ύφος τους παρόλο που είναι λίγο πιο φωτεινό απ’ τις προηγούμενες δουλείες τους. Ήχοι από indie rock συνδυασμένοι με κάποια electronic στοιχεία, ένα staccato μπάσο, “ζωντανά” drums και πολύ ενδιαφέρουσες crunchy  κιθάρες...όλα συμβάλουν στις εξαιρετικές μελωδίες του Ε. Ο E δήλωσε για τον τίτλο του άλμπουμ: “It’s really not meant to be at all, though the plane dropping bombs on the cover may make it seem that way. There’s nothing ironic about it at all, to me. The reasons the bombs are dropping is that we’ve all somehow got to navigate our way through life, and it’s not easy for any of us.”

And if a gun was pointed at her

I would stand between the bullet and her

And if not being with me is what makes her happy

I'd take that bullet too

Ο στίχος του είναι αρκετά καλός αν και από προηγούμενες δουλειές ο Ε μας είχε συνηθίσει στο εξαιρετικό. Αρκετά ευφυής και αρκετά προσωπικός. Ο Ε έχει σαν μούσα τον εαυτό του και φαίνεται ότι υπάρχει ένας εσωτερικός διάλογος. Η φωνή του Ε είναι εξαιρετική. Ο E δήλωσε για το γράψιμο των κομματιών: “What’s unique about this album is that it’s the only time I’ve ever gone into making a record with no plan – the plan was to have no plan. I had nothing written. I just wanted to get the band in a room and see what happened. I think that’s also reflected in the lyrics – I was scared about it, which is why there’s so much about fighting your way out of a corner. But we got lucky. Five guys in a room all firing on all cylinders.”

Had enough but I want more...I don’t remember how I got here

And how long it’s been now...A day or two, maybe more

Home to home I spent the days...Never wandered anywhere...

Εν κατακλείδι οι Eels αν και επιστρέφουν με λίγο πιο φωτεινές μελωδίες δεν φεύγουν απ’ την θλίψη, την σκοτεινότητα και την μελαγχολία του Ε. Το άλμπουμ γράφτηκε στο καινούργιο studio του Ε The Compound, αλλά είναι και το πρώτο άλμπουμ που γράφτηκε σε συνεργασία με τα υπόλοιπα μέλη της μπάντας. Εξαιρετικές μελωδίες, υπέροχα blues...η μουσική του Ε πάντα έχει βάθος και είναι γεμάτη συναισθήματα.
